Hi. Just downloaded GypsyJazzFakeBook.zip, it's nice and useful. Are the Finale .mus files still available anywhere? I'm a German accordion player and every now and then I like to make some small changes to sheet music, e.g. adapt the chords to what I'm really playing.
If this project continues I would like to contribute some (alas not so many) Finale files, I'm using Finale Allegro 2005.

I am not sure this project ever stopped... I am sure some of us keep working on it in the background.
It's just the Wikipedia page that was a flash in the pan, and unfortunately flooded by spam emails. And since most of this genre is driven by guitarists, tabs and chord charts can make the traditional lead sheet seem obsolete.

However, there are still a couple of options that I think doable, maybe not to keep the project, but at least to keep the idea alive.
I would be very curious and interested to know if some Djangonauts are also keeping some of those home made music files (Sibelius, Finale or similar).
Especially because tabs don't do well with violin, clarinet players or other non-guitar, I have been working a lot with lead sheets, and have created and collected over time a bunch of gypsy jazz-related lead sheets.
IF there are other folks like me, and if there is a true interest in this, I would be happy to try to resurrect the project or work something out.

For now, AnniePerson, I would enjoy those lead sheets you just found.
I will make my lead sheets available at some point, but I need to explore the ways to do it.
In the meantime, maybe get closer to some of those French / European accordion website-forum : if you are polite enough and willing to share your own material, they will help you.
Otherwise, old books, like the Peters Anthology (you can get it for $5) still do the job just fine.

Also a lot of it has already been made available here :

I think that we could create a Google Docs page, that would allow us to create a group and invite people to the group to edit and upload content. I think that would be a good way to go if we are worried about copyright issues.

Another idea would be to utilize a great website called Wikifonia.org. If you haven't checked it out, I highly recommend it. It's essentially a database of lead sheets that is 100% user uploaded content. You have to use their lead sheet generating program -- which is user friendly, but unfortunately for me is not Mac compatible yet. There are already a few Django tunes and more than a handful of tunes that are played in by GJ players. But if we could gather enough people to start uploading good content onto that site, it could be a huge resource for the Django enthusiast community.
  • I would be interested to help ....don't have a lot of time but will certainly contribute what I can

I personally really like this idea. Did anyone create a group that I could join on Google Groups yet? On the other hand I know that OpenOffice has limited capabilities compared to Microsoft Office products and that Googles support for OpenDoc format is also even more limited.

I'm so glad I found this and so sad it is forgotten. I've been writing my own charts in Sibelius for a while for my band, mostly just chord charts but some with melodies as well.
If any one else is still interested, I don't see why we can't just pickup where it left off and continue adding to it? Why not! I know it will be extremely useful for my little area of the world where gypsy jazz is gaining popularity again and I'm convincing more and more locals to play it.

So my 2 cents, I'm going to start adding to it and I'll post it on my server soon as a downloadable zip file with pdfs. I've read the consensus for agreeing on notation standards and I'll just keep adding to this. Once I get it together I'll just update the zip link so it's always the most current.

    What do you think?

And do you have any files (sib or finale or pdf) in this format to add to it?
