Great story Wayne! I too have some great memories of Patrick from 2001 since I was fortunate enough to buy two guitars from him that year. Great, great man. I want to focus, however, for a moment on his wife Lodi. I remember her as having a heart of gold. She and my wife, Laura, got along splendidly since they shared a love of painting. Laura with her broken French, and Lodi with her broken English, and both with their exaggerated gestures, going on like a couple of long lost friends. Lodi is a fine artist with a great sense of humor as well. I remember one year at Samois, she had a display of her paintings on Maccaferri-shaped wooden boards. They were colorful scenes of Gypsy and Gypsy jazz life. I remember how Patrick excitedly and proudly brought in the Rosenberg Trio to show them his wife's paintings. She is very supportive of Patrick, and from what I could see, the same could be said the other way around. We all want Patrick to get better, but I think if Patrick could speak to us now, he would be very touched by how we trying to help Lodi. Scot, as others have said, this is a great thing you are doing and I'm happy to be able to help support it and proud to have you as a friend.

Great idea from Scot to help Patrick and his family and a nice way for all of us to show our gratitude and solidarity for another person and his family.

I just wondered if there was any way we could use this years Samois festival to gather even more support. My immediate thoughts are

    A) to set up a well-wishers book where people could record their thoughts
    b) Let people know of the ways they can donate - Paypal etc.
    c) Possibly even collect donations - depending in French laws around this etc.

Just some thoughts and I don't have the first clue how to do this before anyone asks.

    best wishes to all

I've launched a page with a click-through button for PayPal donations.

If you don't have a PayPal account, you can choose to donate with a credit card.

Please continue to spread the word.

Great! I will be sure to donate when I get home tonight. I also posted a link to this page on the UK's hotclub forum, so the lads 'n' lasses over there can get their Quids ready.

-I was fortunate enough to meet Patrick twice a DFNW. I recall his great humour and generosity. Especially appreciate him allowing me to djam with him, in the wee hours of the morning, on "Danse Norwegian" over at Troy's, with my poor gypsy-picking technique and all. DFNW, the first time, was a blast when he appeared on stage with Angelo Debarre and Serge Camps who referred to Patrick as "The Professor" ~ great memories!

~thanks again for doing this Scot.

Cheers and best wishes for recovery to "The Professor"

I chipped in, too. I've never met Patrick, but the intelligence and geniality of his playing, and his obvious generosity and love for the music and its players, speaks volumes about the kind of man he is. Prayers for him and his family, too...

Thanks again for doing this, Scot. I donated tonight--wish it could have been more--and thought it might be worth mentioning again that people can now donate without a PayPal account. I just used a credit card, and all went well. Like Michael Bauer, I've shied away from opening a PP account, and while I was willing to do it for this, I was glad to find I didn't have to. Hopefully, more people will contribute because of that.

Here's to Patrick, and hoping he gets well.

    all best,
    Jack.

OK - donation has been made. Below is a photo that I took of Patrick when he visited Portland and played Artichoke Music...this was one of his favorite photos when I viewed the photos that I took with him. I was happy to be able to hand him a printed copy of this photo at DFNW later that year.

He could also raise money by offering a "discography direct sale" via PayPal at $20+ per cd... Just an idea.
