I'm a bit late finding this, but i've made a donation, & also advertised it in my Patrick-Saussois YouTube videos.

The response to this has been positively formidable, but I would like to remind anyone who hasn't made a donation but would like to, that the account is still open. All donations of any size are welcome.

I have not gotten any information about Patrick's condition - when I do I will advise the group.

My memories are as a listener when I first started to play this stuff about 4 years ago ... i liked all the players but Patrick had a melodic sense that seemed to transcend the music... I listed to the Alma sinti album until the optical grooves were worn out ...

Havana Swing have been fans of Patrick's work for many years - and found out the news in June at Samois. It goes without saying that our thoughts are obviously with him at this time; we pray for his family too.

With regard to fund raising for Patrick, what Scot has done is very noble and should be applauded - since Samois we have been racking our brains and we would like to take the fund raising further by proposing a compilation CD of Patrick's work where by perhaps 20 artists would submit a free, pre recorded Patrick Saussois composition of their choice and all the proceeds would go to Patrick's family. Individual tracks can be recorded in the studio and sent via PC where hopefully a contributor for artwork and processing of the album can be found. Havana's personal track of choice would be Gypseattle - our favourite number by Patrick!

Ideas/comments welcome!

Update...

I'm sorry to report, Patrick has not seen much improvement. He's still suffering "locked-In syndrome" but is conscious and is able to communicate with eye blinks and small head motions. He had some setbacks but is stronger now. He is moving to a rehab facility outside Paris in November - Lodie tells me that it's a very modern and up-to-date facility. Let's hope for the best for Patrick.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of many people (you know who you are), I was able to send Lodie 1900 euro to help the Saussois family out. Many people donated sums of $200 and even more, up to $500! Unfortunately the rate of exchange isn't good, the actual donations totaled nearly $3000. That's really incredible. There is currently $12.54 in the account and every cent donated (minus paypal fees) so far has gone to Patrick and Lodie. She has used the money to help pay the extra hospital fees and to help out with the difficulties of daily life. It's been a tough time for her and Patrick, and believe me, they are very grateful for the help that our little community has been able to provide.

I wound up keeping the account open longer than I intended to because of administrative requirements at paypal. I think there is another sum of money coming in soon, and if anyone else want to contribute a little bit, the account at http://musetteguitars.com/helppatrick.htm will remain open through the end of the month. At that time, any amount of money left will be sent on to Lodie.
