I love Oban, Pink Gary, but I usually keep about 50 single malts around at any one time, and good as it is, it isn't in my top ten. I wouldn't argue if it was in someone else's. Strathisla is not my favorite. Never bought a second bottle. It reminded me of some potion my granmother gave me when I was a kid. One of those that makes you well just because you don't want to taste that crap ever again! One of the best bottles ever, though.
I've never been a guitar player, but I've played one on stage.
Funny you guys should mention Jerry Garcia in a jazz context. I just finished reading Miles Davis' autobiography and he talks about jamming with Garcia and describes how he was very into jazz. Miles played with a lot of rock musicians in the sixties and considered most of them useless musicians except for Garcia, Santana, of course Hendrix amongst a few others.
When Miles was supposed to be opening for certain rock acts that he felt were below him like the Steve Miller band, He would just turn up to the gig so late that they would have to go on first. It's pretty disrespectful, but he could be like that. Still, he speaks fondly about the Grateful Dead in his Bio.
As for a top ten list, I'd find it pretty hard to compile a list and place my favourite artists in some kind of order, I like many Guitarists for as many different reasons. But I know that Django is my favourite. Sometimes his playing just makes me laugh with how ridiculously good it is.
