ya that video is nowhere near close to what the standard GJ rhythm sounds like, but you know what? Like i said, different strokes for different folks... BTW a similar version of minor swing is the one by johnny depp for the Chocolate soundtrack.. I enjoy listening to it, it's not authentic GJ but it's cool...
but it also goes back to what I said earlier re: no one can tell the difference anyway.. It's clear based on the number of positives votes on that video that people love it, and that's totally totally fine ; they probably can't hear the difference between his version and django's version, so where does one draw the line?
If we adopt the attitude that no one can tell a difference anyway, it will only hurt the arts in the long run (i think already has over the past 100 yrs or so) as we continually reduce ourselves to strive for mediocrity
this thread has been blown way out of proportion as interesting as it was to talk about certain things... the original point was, a guy came to me, and I put him on the right path... that's it , no more , no less... and yes it could've been a mistake on my part to show him playing at his early stages, but i still think it's a vast improvement within the context of the situation..
Hopefully, when Dennis gets his online school back up and running he will take some ideas from Martin Taylors guitar academy. Absolutely the best teaching site I have come across.
The Magic really starts to happen when you can play it with your eyes closed
I trained my ears like a madman. I decided to just stop using sheet music (except for classical music) , and i figured everything by ear... And I have to say the beginnign was brutal and frustrating; notes were ok, but i was totally stumped when it came to chords.. but i kept at it, and my ears improved; and now they are where they are
Did you use any specific methods or excercises to improve youre ears or did you just transcribe songs?
By the way, your instructional videos are great. Thanks to them I was able to join a jazzband.
