alas, after talking yesterday to Michael Horowitz, it seems that Cunning Plan #1 won't fly...
So lets talk about Cunning Plan #2... your thoughts welcome...here goes.
- each member of the Rino Group kicks in an amount to be decided...$10? €10? We'll need to create some mechanism to see that he gets the money as easily as possible...? ideas?
- Rino sends each member an MP3 of some of his stuff, played at speed and then slowed down and explained... If possible maybe he could tab some of it out for us?
- I don't know how often Rino would be willing to do this... He told me at DiJ that he has a day job, so perhaps once a month?
- members of the group can debate different things they'd like to request Rino to do for us, but I'm going to suggest that we start by asking him to demonstrate a bunch of descending bass string chords he seems to like to throw in when he's playing lead, very tasty...
Paul Cezanne: "I could paint for a thousand years without stopping and I would still feel as though I knew nothing."
Edgar Degas: "Only when he no longer knows what he is doing does the painter do good things.... To draw, you must close your eyes and sing."
Georges Braque: "In art there is only one thing that counts: the bit that can’t be explained."
We should get him a webcam or a small camcorder and teach him to make little videos. MP3s aren't as useful as something where we can see the neck. A webcam would also give him the option to do Skype or Google Hangout lessons if the timezones lined up well enough. Not to get ahead of ourselves, but we can already slow down any MP3 with Transcribe or the like.
Matt, for me personally I've found that a tabbed version is better than seeing a video of the neck, and that was the direction I was hoping to lead Rino towards...
But what say you, potential members of Club Reno?
Majority rules...

PS Assuming that the vote is for video, what equipment would be necessary, at what cost?

That's a totally fair point. Do you know if Rino is up for creating tabs? Not everyone has the endless patience and concentration of a Dario Napoli or Adrien Holovaty.
The video approach can be super low budget. I'm a snob so I prefer for video to be in HD and with a proper microphone (like Patrus' clips), but that's too expensive a proposition for starters.
My guess is that it depends less on what we'd like as students and more on what Rino is up for in terms of the lesson creation process. If he's comfortable making little videos and talking to a camera then that's useful to me. If he'd rather make MP3s and tabs then I could be talked into that!
Thanks for pursuing this and let me know if I can help in any way.

Let's first see if Rino even wants to do this. If he does, I think we should make it as easy on him as possible. If he can shoot a video showing the neck, one of us can probably turn it into a tab.
One thing though: no amount of studying his licks is ever going to give any of us his awesome right hand.
I've never been a guitar player, but I've played one on stage.
thanks everyone for your thoughts as we figure out how to get this up and running.
I just emailed Rino and asked about his video making capabilities and also his willingness to create tabs, given the fact that when we all chip in our ten bucks or so, the payoff winds up being about 50 or 60 euros when he converts it at his end...
I also asked about if I were to send him an envelope full of US ten spots could he take them to his bank in Holland and cash them in for euros?
I'll report back when I hear from him.

That guitar was fantastic. I obviously got to it entirely too late, as I was pretty interested in buying one.

Really a camera or $25 webcam is all you need. http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-T3H-000 ... 008ZVRAQS/ You can record clips with Windows Movie Maker, iMovie, etc.
