My Radial Tonebone Pre amp has a boost switch with its own volume control, but it's an expensive choice just for a boost. It's a killer pre for acoustic instruments, and indestructable!
@BluesBop Harry it isn't that I want two different sounds, his boost just turns it into an electric guitar solo. If you could eq the boost, that could be fixed.
We're on frustrating quest for a perfect sound.
The boost switch on the LR Baggs Venue only increases the gain. When you have dialed in the EQ that you like, those settings won't change when you turn on the boost. In other words, it will sound he same, only louder. Also, you can adjust the amount of gain that you want the boost switch to add. In my experience (I own a venue) it works perfectly to add a little volume for soloing and play a little quieter when playing rhythm (as well as having an excellent EQ and built-in tuner).

@Keith Murch I haven't fiddled with his Venue but I will! EQ sounds OK with rhythm, but I suspect we need to EQ with boost on soloing mode to rid it of the electric sound. Glad to know it can do the job. I'm gonna try the Boss as I have one available.
Red Eye is expensive, tho less than Venue.
Expensive is all relative.
Sounding bad is more expensive than anything !
Try on the Grace Felix for size. It has a boost , along with 2 channels , supplies 48volt phantom for mic if needed has a notch filter and 3 bands of sweepable midrange control , balanced in and outs , 2 DI's out . Its a grand. Sounds great !
Funny guy, @Al Watsky! I just bought a new amp and have a Baggs Para, so I'm trying to limit expenditure. Also, my band's mixer was ruined in the floods here in Columbia, SC, so not sure about insurance yet. Since we can't do without one, we have to go ahead and get a new one.
If theres a 2nd channel you can set the gain lower (in bridge piezos, extra gain is likely where you getting the electric sound) but set the volume higher. Then A-B footswitch could take you from channel 1 to 2. If there's no extra channels around - won't work of course. An A-B switch box is dirt cheap, then you just need another chord to the second channel. I use a K&K floating bridge (piezo) and it'll take the volume but too much gain and it gets Fenderish sounding, so much so that you can get an effective rock distortion through some driven tubes if you want.

No second channel on those, @Jeff Moore. I'm trying the Boss at a gig tomorrow. Flood benefit for my hometown of Columbia, SC. Keep us in your thoughts.
