I would imagine one big difference is whether the guitar is made by one luthier only or whether the elves make the components and the craftsman assembles the bits. Handmade in a way but not the same as one individual selecting the wood, crafting the instrument and then finishing and setting it up.

The Dutch luthier Ger Boonstra makes great gypsy guitars, including the Fapy Lafertin signature model.

I believe he also made guitars for Dorado Schmitt.
