These "bouche en coeur" Di Mauro guitars are fairly hard to come by. There's a gallery of them here.

I think I recall reading (Alain Antonietto) that Tchan Tchou used one of these for the La Gitane sessions. Also Baro Ferret for the swing valses stuff.

More recently, Craig Bumgarner has measured and made copies of some of them (for brad brose, samy arefin, scoredog.. maybe some others here?)

A good one should be around 2,000 Euros retail

No. That's pretty far off. A good boogie woogie might go for 2k eur or usd (poor ones less), but the heart hole instruments are rarer and more sought after.

Djangobooks ones were listed more than double that- one at 5000 USD here and another at 4500 USD here. Another sold at gypsyguitars a while back. There was a 1940's one that I can't find the price, but I guess it was similar (maybe Michael remembers?) here. Charlie's one is listed for sale currently at 6000 USD on reverb (here). Another one on reverb (not sure who) is listed at ~6900 (here).

I will be interested to see what this one bids up to...

I was basing my valuation on the French market. I appreciate in the US there may be a premium on guitars already in the country as I know many are wary of the costs and hassle of importing and I read recently on a Reverb post that all guitars whatever age and value are now subject to import tariffs, but as the auction in the original post is in France my guess it will sell for a French price. Average prices across Le Bon Coin and Guitare Village in Domont see Boogie Woogies between 800 and 1.200 Euros, and St Louis Blues from 1,500 to 2,000. Here are two Joseph Di Mauro ;Heart Hole' models sold recently by Guitare Village although to be fair the cheaper one may have been altered where the pickup is fitted. Supply and demand rules I guess.

Jamie - stick the picture(s) up on the "Sicilian gypsy folk guitar" thread, and I'll share a few thoughts.... it's certainly from Catania.

(p.s. have a look at the top of page three and bottom half of page ten of that thread for starters)
