To be serious: for strumming I mostly use medium or heavy plastic or celluloid picks (Dunlop, Fender), for solo guitar fat plastic, celluloid, horn or wood picks (Dunlop, Dugain, John Pearse, Timber Tones) and those sometimes for strumming too, depending on the music (and my right hand's form of the day).
I've been into the Wegen Big City (2.2mm) lately. It's the first small Jazz-ish pick I've used that works well on Selmacs without being overly chirpy. Definitely worth a try if you typically use smaller Jazz 3 or Stubby style picks on electric guitar.
Anyone who trades or smuggles real tortoise shell should be scorned -- even reported. It is a felony in the US -- and I imagine so elsewhere. So many pick options out there FFS.
I don't stick to one pick...I use Dunlops, Wegens, a few other things. I don't use rounded or button types, nor triangles, only normal guitar shaped ones with a more pointed tip, and not too thick either.
I found Rino's old comment where he's recommending Moustache picks. They've been around for a long time now but we're never on my own radar. I kinda want one now.
I went back to using thick picks which I started with, 4mm, after years of avoiding them. 2-3 years ago I had an a-ha moment. I felt like it made things easier to play. Can't quite narrow down what exactly is it, they give me the feeling of more control, more confidence. Also, one of the recent threads about Lollo reminded me how I loved his tone and I think you can only get that with a thick pick.
I would agree, I remember one pick maker though who I think retired said he pulled his tortoise picks from old jewelry so no new critters were being offed. I did order one from him but it was too clicky for me.

That email is correct. I just ordered from him a month ago.

I'll use any stiff pick in a pinch, though!
