it's funny how people don't seem to mind dropping a few grand for a guitar or endlessly practicing arpeggios to a metronome but can remain so opposed to improving their ear. especially when you consider that years ago the only way to learn this music was by listening.

Exactly my thought. Without a good ear your guitar is just wood.

hmm, seems like every time dennis releases a dvd we end up discussing the merits of ear training.

Yeah that's true. When the Wawau DVD came out there was a long thread on this topic. I'm kind of glad for it, because Denis had three really insightful posts which are in this thread:
The first one is partway down this page:
    http://www.djangobooks.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=6306
There's a long one on the middle of page two (the page linked above).
    http://www.djangobooks.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=6306&start=15
The other one is on page 3:
    http://www.djangobooks.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=6306&start=30

Although these are referring to the Wawau DVD I think most of the text still applies. A lot of it explains Denis's philosopy with his dvd's and learning in general. Even if you have decided where you stand on the little black dots and pedagogy issue, they're just interesting posts to read.

    Best,
    Jack

    Hi all ,

I would like to ask the forum members if the SR dvd's can be shipped to the uk?
I have just tried at the online store and was advised that shipping to uk was a no go .
Sorry to go of topic slightly but could not find where to start new thread ..

    Many thanks DNM.

    .

The DjangoBooks store? Of course we ship to the UK. The only reason you may have gotten that error is if you tried to pay via google. They won't allow overseas shipment...but if you use any other payment method it's fine.

    Hi Michael .

Many thanks for the reply .
That,s great news as i have been looking for gypsy waltzes for ages by a known GJ player .
The nearest i got was the romane cd with backing and tab but i believe it is now discontinued .
I look forward to getting my hands on these cd's.
Sorry to interfere with the original subject.

Wow, received my order today, (Holland), incredible fast service. Stochelo, and Dennis and his crew truly deserve a medal, I´ve been glancing over the "rhythm part" just now and it´s amazing, clear, accurate and Stochelo really goes into it, it´s like you are part of a masterclass with one of the giants but then you have the opportunity to rewind and multi-angles, this is truly a must-buy for everyone into gypsy jazz (and not only lead players either)
Dennis, make yourself immortal, go out and do the same with Bireli and Angelo, and maybe a special feature of Hono and Nousche, you know we want it
Thanks a million and kind regards

    Frans

It´s good idea....i think that for many gypsy jazz players (mainly beginners) would be interesting to see DVD with really gypsy rhythm masters as Hono Winterstein or Nousche Rosenberg....explaining diferences between Dutch, German or Parisian la pompe styles.....and playing tunes as backingtracks (Daphne, J Atendrain atc) with right "gypsy" chords and changes for training rhythm playing or soloing at home...

Dennis : What do you mean about it....is it real???
or other instructional dvds with Bireli, Angelo or Jimmy Rosenberg???
