Well, I'm waiting.... where are the tabs? (just kididing!)

Honestly, I do not understand the venom and attacks. There is a simple choice that one needs to make carefully when buying any item. Investigate, preview (if possible), and choose to further the product line offering by buying. If you've done your homework, there shouldn't be any issues. The Stochelo DVD was advertised openly and honestly. There are previews available that demonstrate the content, with the exception of the captions, which I really need (hint, hint). The Stochelo DVD was not a 'Denis Chang Teaches How To Play Stochelo's Style' but a DVD that captures a master of the genre playing for over 3 hours demonstrating his style. I guess that's why it's titled 'In the Style of Stochelo Rosenburg' produced by Denis Chang.

Now, it does not include tabs. It doesn't say it does, and there are plenty of preview clips to help you decide if it's worthwhile for you. If you don't like the production efforts of Denis then don't buy his products - it's really that simple. I do not understand given all of the above why someone would feel cheated or ripped off by this DVD.

Use your web space to post your own tabs of music if you want to help, which I can say without hesitation that both Denis and Jack do with the many posted responses to questions and pm's they give through these forums. I would hate to think that someone has their own agenda that would push these kinds of resources out of reach for the many of us who appreciate them.

Give us all a break and try to recover some dignity by posting your thoughts in a more positive fashion that shares and furthers the knowledge of this music, which these forums is about. Sure, if you have a legitimate gripe, you can post it here, but please try to maintain a sense of being civil about it. Others here really do try to help, and this is a great forum to build relationships world-wide, if you chose to do so.

If this doesn't sit well with You ; Don't tune in!
Sorry to have disturbed Your sensitivities, but this is a free and open exchange of Ideas.
And I don't see where any remarks could be classified as venonous.
Are You suggesting that this has turned into a repository of vile innuendo????

You, although you are blatently unaware of the fact, have an extremly confrontaional air about you when you are adding posts. If someone had have given you a refund right at the start then I feel this all could have been avoided-we are now into our 5th page and I can't remember there ever being a more pointless thread. This is a place to share ideas and experiences, I hope you start to get that concept.
Anyway, have a great Christmas and if you really don't like the DVD that much send it over to me as an early stocking filler.

    regards
    Rimm

Venomous? You certainly have become venomous here. Perhaps after you get the address of rimm’s bar, you could leave the ward number you are assigned to so he can send a check without any sharp edges. You've cast aspersions on Dennis' "qualifications" (he knows more than me, and in my book that makes him qualified) - and have even questioned his motivations. You've taken side stops in the world of politics to become rabid, a no-no among artists and others trying to learn in this other world - who wants to know your opinion about that crap? - and have even had the gall to put down teachers and professors because of tenure - an incredibly stupid, narrow, ideological right wing knee-jerk opinion shared by many robots. Likewise it might be a better idea to keep that to yourself as well - it just shows you to be an incredible fool. Last, while interpreting Dennis comment re: North America as insulting, which was not intended, evidence of paranoia on your part, you've displayed an incapability to understand a simple analogy I made in your defense to show that differing opinions and crowd consensus does not cancel dissenting criticism, which shows you as being incredibly defensive to the point when it isn't even necessary, or at minimum that your intelligence does not permit you or personality structure is too rigid to deal with flexible concepts like simple analogies. That I don't mind, because I believe I've taken your full measure by now, with your 'fuck you' attitude.

Listen, I like getting hostile too sometimes, but it is for a positive reason, ultimately, not to assert that everyone is working for me, which seems to be where you're coming from. God, I'd love to have you call my parents, both educators, one of whom was tenured - they'd shut you up quick if they even cared to lower themselves for your benefit, but they aren't around anymore. So do yourself a favor and keep it to GJ, and we'll all be friends.

And btw, just so you know, when it comes to duels of wit, I never lose, so quit while you're ahead.

Ok....I think this has gone on long enough. It's just turning into a flame war which is really tiring.

In conclusion, I think the we all agree that:

    1) Dennis and Wayne have done a great service to the Gypsy jazz community by creating these DVDs. The production quality is excellent and the information is 100% authentic.

    2) Learning by ear is the absolute best way and Dennis' rationale for not including TABs is justified. But some folks really like learning from written music which is fine too. It saves them time, especially if they aren't as accustomed to learning fast passages by ear.
